About the Artist

Romain Mayambi is a Congolese-American photographer based in Cincinnati, Ohio. His work explores the intersection of fashion, identity, and cultural storytelling, using photography as a tool to celebrate presence, belonging, and human connection. Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and raised between cultures, Romain brings a global perspective to his lens—one rooted in empathy, curiosity, and visual honesty.

A self-taught artist with a background in finance, Romain began photographing daily life on campus at the University of Cincinnati. What started as a personal exploration quickly evolved into a powerful visual language centered on narrative portraiture, cultural symbolism, and everyday beauty. Since 2016, he has documented stories of identity, movement, and visibility through editorial, street style, and conceptual photography.

His work has been featured in National Geographic, Forbes 30 Under 30 – Cincinnati, Cincinnati Magazine, CityBeat, CanvasRebel, The Enquirer, The Independent Photographer, and VSCO Journal, reflecting the depth, resonance, and cultural significance of his storytelling across both local and global platforms.
