About the Artist
I am interested in the relationships we cultivate with the mundane (here, meant in the senses of both the everyday and that of the earth), and how those relationships can foster intimacy with the environment around us. I make intricate and intimate works exploring the ties we have to the everyday matter around us, inhabiting our immediate, entangled ecologies. My work challenges the distance we hold between ourselves and (our) nature, encouraging an eroticism of being and connection to place that fosters intimacy, presence, and pleasure.
A series of ceramic wares in commensurate stages of transformation, this work celebrates the possibilities and changes inherent in the process of becoming. The work balances organic and ornate influences, with intricately crafted stoneware vessels resting on a fallen log turned dining table. Atop and amidst the ceramics are delicately sculpted biobugs in their own process of metamorphosis.
