Hi! I’m Janis!
I’ve been studying different forms of art my entire life. I never really had the time to dedicate to art after becoming a mother, so I quietly admired other artists from afar. Out of sheer desperation during the current “season of change”, I stumbled on a way to control the chaos in my head through visual storytelling, thanks to an invite to a women’s art group. Since that day, I have not stopped creating, making
this a daily practice.
At its core, my work is about reclamation and reverence. It celebrates the worn, the weathered, and the once-loved, giving them new presence without erasing where they’ve been. I love multimedia collage, but I also step outside the frame… I enjoy creating unique pieces using foraged wood from my backyard forest. I enjoy gardening, hiking, building, reading, photography, sculpting, trash picking and, of course, yard sales and thrifting. I create and screen print merch for local bands as well. If my hands aren’t busy, my mind is racing.
I create in my home studio on the east side of Cincinnati. I am a mother to 3 children, 3 dogs, a few chickens and, occasionally, my husband. ;) Our home is loud and filled with massive love.
Nothing on this beautiful planet is truly discarded. Everything is just waiting to be seen again.
This bright, colorful multimedia collage uses organic wildflowers from my garden and cutouts from various vintage books, all intricately placed onto page 36 of a storybook.
Images from various vintage magazines, natural flowers foraged from my garden, metal wire accents, and thread form this bold, statement piece. multimedia collage.
Truly a therapeutic piece. Bits of nature are combined with raised layers of vintage magazine cut-outs, playful wire and tissue paper, organized on top of a fragile base creates an intimate scene that makes anyone a better human by simply viewing her.
