I am a storyteller, both in my watercolor paintings and in photography. My evocative subjects range from street scenes from my travels abroad to interactions in museum settings to wistful beach trips.
My watercolors portray a strong visual sense and a keen interest in people. A friend who has bought several of my paintings describes my work as “glowing with humanism and poetry. They capture people’s essence.”
For 16 years I was a member of the Art Circle at the Essex Studios, a group of watercolor artists who work and exhibit together,
I am a graduate of Oberlin College with a BA in sociology, Simmons College with an MLS in library science, and the Art Institute of Boston where I studied photography. I am a lifelong learner and have been taking watercolor classes from Ken Landon Buck for over 16 years.
Several years ago, I was awarded two City of Cincinnati Individual Artist’s grants to complete two narrative/visual projects: Our Families: A Celebration of Adoption and Positively Ninety: Interviews with Lively Nonagenarians. In the latter project, I used my love of storytelling to chronicle in writing and photography the life stories of 28 resilient people in their 90s. The work was exhibited in nine venues in the Cincinnati area and was published as a book.
