About the Artist

Christina Wald is a designer, illustrator, and educator who brings stories to life through art. After illustrating more than 70 picture books, she authored Sketching Here & Everywhere: My Sketching Obsession, a reflection on her creative journey and years of teaching sketching.

A passionate traveler and urban sketcher, she captures the world in her sketchbooks. In 2023, she published a travelogue about her residency at Château d'Orquevaux, followed by one on her adventures in Romania in 2025. A third, focused on Argentina, is slated for release at the end of 2025. She founded Urban Sketchers Cincinnati in 2017 and serves as Social Media Coordinator for the international organization. She has led sketching workshops in Italy, Seattle, Romania, Costa Rica, and Ohio.

Her picture books are sold worldwide. Highlights include three titles for the San Diego Zoo, including their official centennial children’s book. She also illustrated The Wild Life of Elk, a collaboration between the U.S. Forest Service and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Camas and Sage: A Story of Bison Life on the Prairie for the American Prairie Reserve. Both titles are featured in national park gift shops across the country. Most recently, she illustrated a book for Kew Gardens in London. She also works with a Swiss publisher on German-language titles, including collaborations with yodeling star Melanie Oesch and a book celebrating the Miracle of Bern and the Young Boys FC. Her latest release is Denni-Jo and Pinto at the Rodeo, written by Buck Buchanan and she has books coming out in 2026 from publishers in Switzerland, England, and the US.

She also draws comics and had work in Cincinnati Cabinet of Curiosities and other anthologies over the years. She is currently working on a graphic novel called Shards.

Wald has taught illustration and narrative storytelling for over a decade at Northern Kentucky University, where she is recognized as an award-winning and inspiring educator.
