About the Artist

Hello, I'm Carolyn Parker of Parker&Creative.

As an independent multimedia artist, I've evolved in real time aIongside early analog foundations and into the 90s, where digital new media phases were introduced and championed.

My current multimedia practice operates within the hybrid realm. Process-oriented and investigative approaches allow me to leverage new media, including generative outcomes.

QUICK FACTS
MFA, University of California, Regents Fellowship
BFA, Wright State University, magna cum laude
Art Academy of Cincinnati, studio foundational studies

ANCHORING APPROACH
I start digitally, like sketching or drawing, using my own ideas, photography, visual artifacts, and language. I experiment freely until something begins to feel right. Most of it stays exploratory, but a few pieces move forward and I spend much more time refining them.

I work with recurring themes—vessels, memory, chaos, language—and more recently thresholds, which is where many of these pieces live. I think of them like branches of the same tree, all connected.

Not all systems begin with code.
How a system is addressed determines how it responds.
Some tools require instruction; others respond to language.
When we move from programming to prompting, authorship shifts—not disappears.

My practice is an evolving field rather than a fixed methodology. It moves through a set of recurring constellations—conceptual, material, and temporal—that guide how work is formed, revisited, and released.

Through these hybrid analog-digital workflows, I frame layered metaphors and allegories, contrasting assumed reality with emotional undercurrents and latent memory. My imagery navigates the interplay between destruction and transformation, evoking the inner and outer worlds we collectively inhabit.

Threshold: At the Edge of Containment

Thresholds hold the moment where passage is paused long enough for recognition to occur.

A system of passages—
from inheritance into individuation,
from collapse into coherence,
from the familiar into the newly possible.

This is the quiet equilibrium:
a practice of learning to see again,
to listen deeper,
to translate lived experience
into forms that can hold it
without collapse.

Here, silence is not absence;
it is agency.
A place where empathy steadies,
discernment sharpens,
and the self steps forward
without disappearing.

A study in held form—where density, boundary, and pattern gather without collapse. The surface resists clarity while quietly recording pressure, memory, and restraint.

Giclée fine art prints available.

Surrender

Surrender

The "Surrender" work was born from my personal experience navigating resistance and chaos within a communal role—where overreach was met not with transformation, but with inertia. What began as a bid for meaningful change became a lesson in surrendering to self rather than to the expectations of others. Rather than retreat, I chose to resolve quietly.

Exploring the quiet interior shifts that arise when control is no longer sustainable, each piece is a response to the tension between outer structure and inner truth—a visual meditation on solitude, fortitude, and the necessity of letting go.

The resulting compositions reflect an emotional architecture of transition: from opacity to transparency, order to rupture, and ultimately, silence to growth. These prints are not declarations but meditative moments—each one a square of breath held, and then released.

The square serves as my architectural and spiritual field: a place of containment, repetition, and resistance. Within it, I place vessel forms—both fractured and whole—and allow botanical elements to emerge, intrude, or gently persist. These silhouettes represent aspects of the self pressing outward from within fixed systems.

Series available or individual images as Giclée fine art prints, available up to 30"x30". Please see more info on my site at https://carolynparker.us/practice/surrender-meditations/.

PASSAGES OF IDENTITY, PATTERN, AND PRESENCE

"Thresholds" is the evolving field of my practice—a space where identity unfolds through pattern, residue, and the quiet architecture of becoming.

This body of work attends to moments of transition: when form shifts, when one state loosens and another begins. A passage from inheritance into emergence, from containment into pattern, from memory into presence.

My practice moves across mediums and conceptual rooms, tracing how the self changes shape through rupture, vestige, counterpoint, and reconfiguration.
They mark a threshold not of identity, but of response.
