About the Artist

Amy Gillispie is a multidisciplinary visual artist, educator, photographer, and architecturally trained designer whose creative practice explores the connections between music, color, visual expression, architecture, nature, and human experience.

A lifelong artist and musician, Amy earned her B.S. in Architecture from The Ohio State University in 1991 and spent the early part of her career working as an architectural designer. Her interest in the relationship between music and architecture continued to shape her creative work, eventually leading her to develop a unique process for translating musical compositions into visual form.

After earning her Master of Art Education with Honors from The Art of Education University in 2024, Amy formally launched Chromatic Compositions, her personal art practice. Through this work, she translates music into color, line, rhythm, and movement, creating original paintings and digital compositions inspired by everything from classical music and Broadway to film scores and personally meaningful melodies. Many works incorporate a second, expressive layer created through neurographic drawing in response to the emotional experience of listening to the music. The result is a body of work that invites viewers to experience familiar music in an entirely new visual language.

Amy's creative practice also includes fine-art photography, through which she explores the beauty of nature, animals, architecture, landscapes, flowers, and the details of the world around her. Her photography reflects the same fascination with color, composition, light, structure, and wonder that informs her paintings.

Her work extends beyond individual artworks into storytelling and creative education. Since 2009, Amy has created and taught architecture, art, music, photography, and art-integrated courses through Building Brilliant Minds Online, School of Architecture and the Arts, working with students from around the world and encouraging them to discover their own creative paths.
